Do you recall the feelings you have when you experience a beauty that you haven’t seen before? Is it a new place where you have never been or a new way of seeing something? When that happens to me, I want to share it, and that is why I make photographs.
I was lucky my dad had a creative spirit. He built a darkroom in the storage area attached to our house. I had free run of the lab and could develop film and print black-and-white photographs. As a result, film photography holds a special place in my heart.
Growing up in the South, I remember when the occasional snow or ice storm would pass through. The chance to see sunlight shining through ice and snow covered trees was a rare opportunity. I enjoyed sharing that then, and I still stop to watch the sun rising over a frosty forest.
